New Speakers, New Topics Added to SNA Fall Conference – Heavy Focus on Both Print & Digital

By Nancy Lane, SNA President

In just the last two weeks, some great new speakers and topics have been added to the Fall Conference agenda. As always, all sessions at SNA Conferences strive to provide immediate ROI. This means covering actionable items (“show me the money” as Gordon Borrell or Mike Blinder would say). While we do throw in a few big picture items, these are few and far between.

New Sessions/Topics/Speakers Just Added Include:

  • Roger Coover, Publisher, The Record (Stockton). We recently learned that Stockton is having success with pay walls. When we heard the news, we immediately contacted Roger and he graciously agreed to come and share his story. Many SNA daily members have called us over the last six months asking for case studies on this topic; now we will have one to share.
  • New Distribution Strategies for Preprints – many speakers will cover this timely topic. Steve Mueller, COO, NSA Media will talk about programs like “Sunday Select” and partnerships with direct mail. He will share feedback from the many retail clients that NSA handles. Josh O’Connor, VP-Sound Publishing, will share the details of their sophisticated and highly-targeted new system for delivering preprints in the Seattle suburbs. Finally, media buyers from Best Buy, ACG, Vertis & more will address the topic during the “Meeting the Needs of Today’s National & Local Media Buyers” session on Wednesday.
  • Mobile Success Stories – We Have Them!! Attend the Thursday keynote to learn more. In the Chicago suburbs, a non-advertiser is going to spend $15,000/year thanks to the inclusion of mobile with print and online; in Bloomington, IN, close to 20 mobile packages have already been signed; in Bristol, Rhode Island, a small weekly sales rep sold 10 mobile packages in 3 weeks. We will have pricing, marketing, lessons learned & more at this session.
  • Capitalizing on Efficiencies & Outsourcing Success Stories – Barb Swanson, VP-Advertising at Sun-Times Media and Betty Carr, VP & Group Publisher for Metroland Media Toronto Division, have a lot to share on this subject. Both companies have worked hard to streamline operations, outsource non-core functions and use technology to capitalize on efficiencies. They now have real data to share and some inspiring success stories.
  • Just added to media buyer one-on-one meeting schedule: Stacey Wedster, Walgreens account for NSA Media. This is Stacey’s first SNA meeting and the first time that Walgreens has participated. Sign up now as Stacey only has one or two slots left. Also a big welcome to Shona Mattingly from Centro. This is a must attend meeting as Centro handles 250 agencies and 500 advertisers on the digital side.
  • Many SNA members asked us to cover revenue success stories on the print side. We just added Lisa Miksis, Publisher at Shore Publishing (CT), who is having terrific success with a post-it program for her group of weekly newspapers. Along with vendor Jeff Deitz of The Kennedy Group, they will share recent successful campaigns. Other print success stories will be covered in the great ideas session and the niche products session. Note that the Mike Blinder “Fix Your Sales Organization Now” focuses heavily on print and how to manage your staff more effectively. He debuted this presentation at our Boot Camp in July and it is one of the best sessions that I have seen in a long time.

As you can see, much has been added in the last few weeks. So if you are not registered, what are you waiting for? Click here for full program and registration details.
