“Information is critical during times of change” said Nancy Lane, President of Suburban
Newspapers of America. “Community Media Matters will help us disseminate news and
information about the community segment of the industry in a very easy and enjoyable
format. It is just one of the tools that we are using to get our message out to
the financial, advertising and newspaper communities.”
The inaugural edition of Community Media Matters kicks off today with an interview
with Barry Haselden, Vice President of Strategic Sourcing — Media at market
service leader Valassis and Nancy Lane, president of LocalPoint Media and SNA. Valassis
and LocalPoint Media recently formed a progressive alliance which brings online
grocery coupons to community newspaper Web sites.
In the podcast, Haselden notes that the affiliation was a natural one.
“As a buyer of newspaper advertising, we believe that all of the things that are
most valuable about newspapers in general — engagement, immediacy, connection,
and a strong local focus — are particularly true of community newspapers”
said Haselden.
According to Lane, since the opportunity has been offered to community newspapers
last month, the response has been “overwhelming” with nearly 700 URL’s signed up
to participate.
“This partnership will help community newspapers monetize their Web sites in a new
way and will help them become the destination for online coupons,” she says.
