Mobile Strategies
Mobile Strategies Report

"A new disruptor is about to wreak havoc... and that disruptor is mobile" - Gordon Borrell, CEO, Borrell Associates.

This report examines a number of strategies being employed by local media companies. These companies are all dedicating significant internal resources to launch a mobile strategy with the understanding that the payoff/ROI will not be immediate. They are viewing this strategy as an investment in their future.

This is a great report that contains 22 pages of case study information.

Thanks to Borrell Associates for providing 2 of the case studies and to Mike Blinder for providing a bonus case study as we were literally "going to press". This space is rapidly evolving and we will continue to follow it closely.

A corresponding webinar is planned for May 1, 2012, at 11:00 am ET. This is an opportunity to ask specific questions and learn more about from the companies profiled in the report.

Using Free Open Source Software
Open Source Software Report

LMIA has released the third Local Media Innovation Alliance report, Using Free Open Source Software. This one is far more technical than the others so you will want to share this with the techies on your staff.

The profiled companies are not only saving a lot of money, but they are noticing increased innovation as a result. As one of the executives profiled in the report said, "This isn't about saving money, it's about accelerating innovation." Still, the cost savings are huge and while the companies did not give us the exact numbers, we know that they were well into the six figures for some.

A corresponding webinar is planned for April 12, 2012, at 3:00 pm ET. This is an opportunity to ask specific questions and learn more about from the companies profiled in the report.

The report is included in LMIA membership (LMIA is a paid membership through the Local Media Foundation that includes monthly reports such as this one with a related webinar and other beneftis). The Local Digital Ad Agency
The Local Digital Ad Agency

The Local Media Innovation Alliance (LMIA) has released its first monthly report The Local Digital Ad Agency. Many local media companies are getting into the agency business and many others are considering it. Some are launching full blown efforts while others are picking and choosing which services to offer.

Our main case study comes from The Times Digital Group in Kingsport, Tenn. (Sandusky Newspapers). In addition, we've included three mini case studies with Dow Jones Local Media, Deseret Digital and The Augusta Chronicle. The 33-page report gives in-depth information on each company, their digital strategies and many of the vendors they are using. The final pages summarize key takeaways and potential next steps for companies that are considering launching their own digital agency. The report also includes the plans of a weekly newspaper publisher to launch an agency in his market after he accompanied our author to Kingsport.

The report is included in LMIA membership (LMIA is a paid membership through the Local Media Foundation that includes monthly reports such as this one with a related webinar and other beneftis).
