Local Media Association's most popular contest of the year includes thousands of entries from members across North America. This contest recognizes editorial excellence in six different circulation classes that separates dailies from non-dailies. The Suburban Journalist of the Year award is decided in conjunction with this contest.
The Local Media Association 2013 Editorial Contest
Your editorial content is at the heart of your newspaper -- full of passion and integrity, it's what keeps your community in the know. The Local Media Association Editorial Contest offers you the opportunity to nationally recognize the accomplishments of your newspaper's best work. So send us your Best Front Page, Best Breaking News Story, Best Sports Photo, Best Sports Section or your best from any of the 42 different Editorial Contest categories.
This contest is open to Local Media Association members, non-members and media association partner members. Each company or newspaper may submit an unlimited number of entries within each category, as long as the entries are submitted in the proper circulation class in which they qualify.
Entry Fee Structure:
Cost per entry: $35 each*
Save on multiple contest entries from same newspaper:
1-9 entries: $35 each
10-19 entries: SAVE $5 ($30 each)
20+ entries: SAVE $10 ($25 each)
*Actual discount will be made at the time payment is charged by Local Media Association headquarters and reflected on an emailed receipt from Local Media Association headquarters.
Entry Deadline Exention has been Granted!
Thank you to everyone who submitted your entries last week. Due to an overwhelming number of extension requests and to make this contest as meaningful as possible for all LMA members, we have extended the entry deadline until Friday, Dec. 6.

Entries may be submitted only if published in your newspaper(s) between September 1, 2012 – August 31, 2013.
There are a total of 42 categories to enter; plus the prestigious individual honors of Journalist of the Year and Editor of the Year awards. For complete category descriptions, please click here.
Non-Daily (weekly) publishes 3 times per week or less.
- Class A: Under 20,000 (non-daily)
- Class B: Over, 20,001 (non-daily)
Daily publishes 4 times per week or more.
- Class C: Under 25,000 (daily)
- Class D: Over 25,001 (daily)
Entries must be entered in the circulation class that matches the audited number (or affidavit from the publisher) or risk disqualification. It is vital to the integrity of the contest that you choose the correct circulation class in which to enter. HOW TO ENTER
Local Media Association has again teamed up with NewspaperToolbox to provide an online entry platform for the 2013 Editorial Contest. This online contest entry system is designed to make the process of entering contests quicker, easier and less costly than the previous method of mailing 'hard-copy' material. It also allows Local Media Association to electronically archive all entries and make them available for review.
